Looking at this packaging, what’s the first thing that came to your mind?
Was it a fried vegetarian snack?
These ready to eat vegetarian snacks has been very popular over the past year. From imitation jelly fish to the disturbing corn sausage I reviewed last time.
What’s sexy? It is a spongy fried wheat soaked in spicy seasoning oil. The texture felt as if I’m biting into a dried out kitchen sponge. But softens into a bread-y texture like North Sea fish snack. I tasted peppercorn, chili oil, and a hint of sugar. The flavor is addictive, like eating a jar of Chinese condiments. But it isn’t an ideal stand alone snack because it’s soaked in oil. So, it’s better eaten with rice or a drink.
What does cool taste like? Also a fried sponge, but sweeter than than sexy.
The hot packet (yellow) tasted spicier than cool and sexy.
